The government of Ghana is to pump $740 million into water systems to make water accessible to both towns and communities as announced on Tuesday, October 11th, 2022.
At the commissioning of a project under the enhancing Water and Sanitation Hygiene (WASH) programme , Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia stated that due to improvements made in making water potable, Ghana has recorded low numbers of cholera cases in recent years.
He further stressed that other significant improvements are urban areas getting 96% access and rural areas getting 74%, for an overall record of 87% access to clean water nationwide.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that as part of supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal, Goal 6, the government introduced the “Water for All” project.
“ We all know that under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal, Goal number 6 is a goal for us to attain clean water sanitation for all. In this reward, the government of Nana Addo Akuffo has had a policy of water for all” he added.
The commission took place at Tuna in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District in the Savannah Region.
The Vice President further acknowledged the private sector for joining forces with the government in the provision and investment of water.
