The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, unveiled the new cocoa producer prices at a press conference held in Accra on Wednesday, October 5, 2022.
Dr. Akoto explained that the government has raised the cocoa producer price by 21%, to GH?800.00 per bag.
According to him, the new price, which is to take effect from Friday, October 14, 2022, will make the cocoa farming business profitable and help cocoa farmers improve their standard of living.
He mentioned with full assurance that the Government is in the full mode of employing solid and feasible initiatives to establish a strong and sustainable cocoa business.
He went on to state that the government is in the act of building a fresh transition for the Cocoa Farmers' Pension Scheme by transitioning from the pilot phase to the implementation phase.
Dr. Akoto emphasized how the Government is continuing to support cocoa farmers through mass spraying and rehabilitation of diseased cocoa farmers.
He assured “Government is committed to continuing to supply certified planting materials that are drought tolerant, early bearing and high-yielding”.
