A section of Members of Parliament of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has demanded for the removal of the Minister of Finance , Ken Ofori Atta, and the Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Adu Boahen.
During a press conference in parliament on Tuesday, October 25 2022, spokesperson, Andy Appiah Kubi , a Member of Parliament for Asante-Akim North, made a declaration of this said demand.
According to the spokesperson, the main cause of this is the current economic status of the country.
“ The recent development within the economy is of major concern to our caucus and our constituents. We have made our grave concern to our president through the parliamentary leadership and the leadership of the party without any positive response”, Hon. Appiah Kubi added.
Hon. Appiah Kubi further stressed their readiness to be absent from all government business should their demand fail.
“ We want to serve notice , and notice is hereby served that until such persons as aforementioned are made to resign or removed from office, we members of the majority caucus here in parliament will not participate in any business of Government by or , for the President by any other Minister.” he said.
In hope, the majority caucus believes this will restructure the economy in the right direction.
He further added that the group is in high hope that the President , Nana Akuffo Addo, approves and makes the necessary changes in order to fix the sluggish state of the economy.
It is claimed that about 80% of the majority caucus of Parliament have signed the petition.
