A group of Metro Mass Transit employees on protest are scheduled to have a meeting today, October 14, 2022.
The meeting is said to be between the striking workers and the National Labour Commission (NLC).
According to the Secretary to the Senior Staff, in an interview with Citi News, the employees have convened to meet with the commission.
“ The demand is that we want to hear from the President on the removal of the Managing Director. Until that, the strike is still on. We don’t know what the Commission is going to tell us, so we will still sit and go and listen to them, ” he said.
Along with their numerous grievances, they have demanded the dismissal of their managing director, Albert Adu Boahen, and his two deputies since they are largely responsible for their present issues, including unpaid payments.
In an interview with Citi News, the Public Relations Officer for the Company, assured that workers will receive their salaries for August on Friday, October 14, 2022.
He said, “ By Friday, we will be able to close the August payroll, and it will be left with just one month’s salary arrears."
Mr. Asante , with Valentina Ofori-Afriyie on 12Live, on October 12th, 2022, lamented that the company is under-resourced as they are currently operating with 187 buses.
“ We’re operating a transport company, and you need buses to run to be able to mobilize enough revenue to make payment of certain obligations. As we’re speaking, we’re running 187 buses.” he added.
He continued “ you’ll bear with me that for the past two years, fuel prices have witnessed several increments and the question is, Metro Mass as part of policy some of our fares are even 50 pesewas lesser compared to other transport operators, so, we are not competing”
