Member of Parliament for Tarkwa Nsuaem, George Mireku Duker, has debunked allegations of being actively engaged in illegal small-scale mining also known as ‘galamsey’.
According to him, he has no concession and has no involvement in galamsey operations. He added, “ I do not have a concession. I do not invest into any mining of any kind, and I am not into mining”.
Mr. Mireku Duker emphasised that the aim of this claim is to draw attention away from his responsibilities as a member of parliament. He thus pleaded with the general population to ignore any claims.
“ If you know a concession owned by Mireku Duker everybody will testify , the community will testify. You know it is also a strategy to in a way distort your assignment , your focus and all that” he said.
He made his comments after the Chief of Dompim-Pepesa in the Tarkwa municipality said in an interview that the MP, the Western Regional Minister, and the MCE of Tarkwa were engaged in illegal operations within his territory.
The Chief said that he has sufficient evidence to bring charges against the named persons.
Meanwhile, at a meeting convened at Manhyia, in the Ashanti Region, on October 5, 2022, President of the Republic Nana Akuffo Addo urged chiefs, traditional leaders, and other parties interested in the matter to band together to fight the canker.
