A group of market queens at the Kumasi Race Course market have picked a nomination form for former Trade and Industry minister, Mr. John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, to contest for the flagbearer position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

 The market queens  in a fulfilment of a promise made by the women to Mr. Kyerematen in January 2022.

The group, known for its grassroots mobilisation efforts, paid the GH?50,000 fee required for Mr. Kyerematen to participate in the upcoming polls.

Leader of the group, Madam Sarkina said they are ready to support Mr. Kyerematen’s bid because of his understanding of the market women’s needs due to his experience as a former Trade and Industry minister.

The women also engaged leadership of the Kumasi Central market urging them to support Mr. Kyerematen’s bid highlighting his achievements in the Trade and Industry ministry as reasons to support his candidature.

Comfort Serwaa, leader of the Kumasi Tomato sellers union said they trust in Mr. Kyerematen’s ability, the reason they decided to pay for his nomination fee. “We decided that we won’t allow Mr Kyerematen to pick his forms, we will put resources together and pay the fee for him. So we are here to pick the forms for Alan so he can become the President of Ghana

Mr Kyerematen resigned from his position as Trade Minister in January 2023 to focus on his presidential ambitions.

The 67-year-old made his first attempt to lead the New Patriotic Party as its flagbearer in 2007 but failed in his bid as Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo emerged as the winner

Popularly known as ‘Alan Cash’, Mr. Kyerematen made other attempts in 2010 and 2014 but was unsuccessful.
