Students and staff of St Charles Minor Seminary School, in Tamale, woke up yesterday to find a dormitory and classroom block totally consumed by fire.
Property such as bags, books, mattresses and chop boxes of over 300 students and staff were completely burnt. The building was constructed by the Parent Teacher Association (PTA).
The fire is believed to have started around 7:30 am on Sunday morning. It took the intervention of the Ghana Fire Service to bring the fire under control after about two hours.
Mr Polycarp Kuusokub, the school’s Headmaster said that it was during their Sunday morning mass that students had realized that the building had caught fire.
According to him, this is the third time in three years the school has experienced a fire outbreak. Personnel from the fire service promised to check the wiring system of the school in order to prevent another incident like this.
